Arizona State University's Piper Center for Creative Writing offers classes open to the public for writers of all skill levels. Its line-up of Spring 2014 workshops includes a four-week online class taught by award-winning historical novelist Jessica McCann.
Historians write about dead people; historical novelists write to give them new life. McCann's online workshop, "Bringing the Past to Life: Writing Historical Fiction," will explore how the novelist can captivate readers with engaging characters, compelling stories and historical detail.
Topics will include analysis and comparison of historical fiction genres, how to research your time period of choice, how to layer in historical facts with a light touch, drawing the line between fact and fiction, being true to your story, and much more.
The class will be offered online from April 7 - May 4, 2014. Visit the ASU website for more information and to register.
